Week 15 - The first "signs"
Tuesday, April 20, 2004 by Ryan
Well, another couple of weeks have passed - we had our monthly midwife appointment today. We were both looking forward to it as we finally got to meet Kay, the other half of our midwife "team". Her and Mary both seem fantastic and we certainly feel better knowing we've got two people we can call at just about anytime to get our questions answered or concerns heard. Not that there have been any issues or concerns but it always good to hear that everything is progressing at the right pace - Things are the size they're supposed to be, symptoms are right for this point in the pregnancy, everything is great.
Signs of Life
We got to hear the baby's heart beat again. As is usually the case, it's come down a bit to around 146 BPM. Normal is anywhere from 110 up to 160 BPM and depending on what the baby is up to in there it can vary pretty wildly. More than anything the midwives, or anyone can tell us, the static-y sound of the heartbeat is certainly the most reassuring thing of all.
Signs of Growth
Already Erin's wardrobe is starting to slim as she grows out of her various pants, her stomach is just starting to get to that point where it causes "suspicion" but isn't at that obviously pregnant stage. Every few days something else doesn't fit - I think we lost her favorite pants yesterday. By my count I think that just leaves a couple of non-maternity pants that she can get into now. We went out a couple weeks ago and got her a couple pairs of proper maternity pants - we were both surprised at just how nice the maternity wear seems to be now. Her black pants you wouldn't even recognize as maternity, unless you looked really closely, and supposedly she can wear them right through the pregnancy.
Other than that there's not much new. We've been trying to bring ourselves up to speed on the weird and wonderful world of baby furniture and "stuff". Thank god for the Web, I'm not sure how we'd ever research half this stuff without it. I don't think we've seen the same stroller twice yet (at least in stores) - but we scared ourselves on a walk this weekend when we realized we were recognizing stroller models from a distance as we approached other folks out for a walk. Whatever happened to four wheels, a seat, seat belt & handle? Of course, that's just the tip of the iceberg - but I've rambled on long enough.
We're not expecting much else baby wise for a couple of weeks. We got our requisition for the 18 week ultrasound so hopefully in a couple of weeks we'll have a better picture & video for the site.
Until then....
