Movement #1: Strong Kicks
The past couple of weeks have been eventful to say the least. Erin's been feeling better, pregnancy nausea is almost completely out of the way at this point and her energy still seems to be holding up pretty good. Baby has really started to kick hard - last week was the first time we could actually see Erin's stomach move when it would kick. It seems to kick more when I'm talking and close to the belly. I'm not sure whether this is a good sign or bad. Other than that not much on the baby topic to report.
Movement #2: Housing
The other "movement" we'll be experiencing shortly will be the move to our new house. On the Friday before the long weekend Erin and I started our hunt for a house. We looked at six and of all of them we really liked one. Great neighbourhood, right price and the building was in great shape. Only problem was whoever had designed the layout seemed to think that the eat-in kitchen needed to take up half the main floor and the Living Room and Dining room could be crammed into the area of what was left.
The night before another property in the complex had been listed, our agent, Don, tried to get us in to see that property as well but they didn't want it shown that day. At the time we weren't too concerned as we figured we'd just see it on our next trip down the following week. Over the weekend though as we read the listing details for the house it became apparent that is was far better laid out and even had a good sized Family Room over the garage. The more we thought about it - the better vibe we got that the house, based on how much we liked the poorly laid out one, could possibly be the one we'd really love. On Sunday evening, after we found out Don would already be working the holiday Monday, we gave him a shout to see if we could possibly get in to view the house Monday evening.
It's funny how everyone says "You'll know it when you see it", I always took that with a grain of salt hoping I'd be a little more pragmatic when it came time to make the decision. While it maybe took me one or two more steps inside the house to decide than it did for Erin we both knew the minute we saw inside the front door and got a glimpse of the the basic layout of the main floor. It was pretty much exactly as we'd wanted and all of the rooms were sized and shaped so they'd work with the furniture we've already got. It even has most of the items off our nice-to-haves list including AC, wood-burning fireplace and a finished basement.
On the way down Erin had been talking about how, wherever we ended up, what she really wanted to do was paint the laundry bright white so she didn't feel like she was doing laundry in a dungeon. Needless to say it clinched the deal when we went into the basement and found a fully finished laundry room, painted bright white and a good size window looking out into the backyard. I think the exact words were "Don, you have to get me this house!" (We hadn't even looked upstairs yet).
We had our home inspection on Monday night and all went well. We're just waiting on the condo information from our lawyer and everything should be all set to firm up the deal. We posted some photos from the new place in the Photo Galleries on the site. The link is in the top right corner of this page.
I think having a truck these past five years will really pay off when it comes time to call in all the favours come August.
Movement #3: Old Age
Ah yes, and last but not least Sue, my mum, waded into shallow end of the "old age" pool last week as she celebrated her 50th birthday. A great party was thrown over the past weekend to celebrate. You can access the photos from the party through the galleries link in the top right corner - if any one else who was at the party have some good pics please e-mail them to me and I'll be sure to get them up.
Other Notes:
- Any other family occasions or events etc. that you want to share pics of please feel free to send them on to me in a ZIP file and I'll add a gallery. I'm working right now to database enable the process so anyone who wants can create a gallery and upload their pics.
